“How do we turn our classrooms into learning engines? Pay attention to our children’s intensely rich information experiences.”
— Warlick, D. (2006). Teaching and Learning on the Edge of Change.
DID YOU KNOW…that over the last two years the state has cut a staggering $18.5 million from our LAUSD operating budget? Within the Los Alamitos Unified School District we PRIDE ourselves with maintaining the highest quality of education…because it is what our students deserve. Given the drastic budget cuts, LAUSD has been proactively attempting to fill increasing budget gaps by, among other things:
Despite these measures, the District still needs INCREASED PARENTAL SUPPORT to maintain one of our most important educational principles: REDUCED CLASS SIZE. Parents and educators representing all of our district schools have banded together, with the support of The Los Alamitos Educational Foundation, in an effort to raise the additional funds needed to continue to implement class size reductions throughout our LAUSD schools.
Last year our Class Size Reduction Campaign raised $70,000 to reduce class sizes district-wide, and this year we are requesting a donation of $225 per student (which amounts to just $18.75 per month) so that district-wide class sizes could be reduced back to 20 to 1 in grades K-3, and class averages could be lowered in grades 4-12 to a maximum of 35. IT TAKES EVERYONE’S INVOLVEMENT TO REACH THOSE LEVELS FOR OUR 2010/2011 SCHOOL YEAR!
We thank you in advance for your generosity on behalf of the children of LAUSD.
